When someone dies, the emotional weight is immediate. Unfortunately, so are many of the expenses.

Funeral costs, final medical bills, travel, missed work, and other unexpected needs can place added pressure on a family during an already difficult time.

Final expense insurance is designed to provide a life insurance benefit that can help with those costs, depending on the policy. It is not about placing a price on someone’s life. It is about making sure the people you love are not left trying to carry every financial detail at once.

The right amount of coverage depends on your wishes, your existing resources, and what you would want handled for your family.

A simple conversation now can help make a hard season a little less complicated later.

A caller may sound professional, know your name, and even make the correct number appear on your caller ID.

That still does not mean the call is legitimate.

Never give your Medicare number, Social Security number, banking information, or credit card details to someone who contacts you unexpectedly. Do not allow anyone to pressure you with claims that your benefits will be canceled, your card must be replaced, or you must act immediately.

Hang up and call a trusted number yourself. You can contact Medicare directly at 1-800-MEDICARE, call the customer-service number printed on your plan materials, or contact an agent you already know.

Your Medicare card should be protected just like a credit card. If the person calling is legitimate, they will understand that you want to verify the information first.

Pause. Hang up. Verify.

Think you have to wait until November to sign up for health insurance? Maybe not.

Marketplace Open Enrollment runs November 1 through January 15, but certain life changes may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period outside those dates.

Examples can include:
* Losing other health coverage
* Getting married
* Having or adopting a baby
* Certain moves
* Some other qualifying changes in your household or circumstances

In many cases, you have a limited window around the qualifying event to enroll, so it is worth checking sooner rather than assuming you have to wait.
If your coverage has changed, Chris can help you determine what options may be available.

A hospital stay can affect more than the hospital bill.

Even with health insurance, there may still be deductibles, copays, travel expenses, meals away from home, missed work, childcare, or help needed around the house.

Hospital indemnity insurance is supplemental coverage that may pay a fixed cash benefit when a covered hospital event occurs. Depending on the policy, that money can be used where it is needed most.

It does not replace major medical coverage, and benefits, limitations, exclusions, and payment amounts vary by policy. But for some families, it can provide another layer of financial protection during an already difficult time.

Chris can help you review how hospital indemnity coverage works and whether it makes sense for your situation.

A serious diagnosis can change more than your health.
Even with health insurance, a major illness can bring unexpected expenses:
• Travel for treatment
• Time away from work
• Household bills
• Additional costs that come with recovery
Cancer and stroke policies are supplemental coverage that may provide a benefit after a covered diagnosis or event. The benefit is paid according to the terms of the policy and can help provide additional financial support when it is needed most.
These policies are not a replacement for health insurance, but they may be another tool to consider as part of your overall protection plan.
Chris can help you understand how these types of policies work and whether they may fit your needs.

Small business owners: offering health benefits does not have to mean choosing one group plan for everyone.

An ICHRA, or Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement, allows a business to design a reimbursement plan around its budget and workforce. Employees purchase individual health coverage that fits their own needs, submit eligible expenses, and receive reimbursement according to the employer’s plan design.
Employers can also create different reimbursement rules for defined employee groups, or “classes,” such as full-time and part-time workers, salaried and non-salaried employees, seasonal staff, geographic areas, and waiting periods.
For a small business, that can mean more flexibility in how health benefits are offered, while still keeping control over eligibility and reimbursement limits.

Small business owners, curious whether an ICHRA could fit your company? Chris can help you start the conversation.

Chris has been known to watch a YouTube video and decide a home repair looks completely manageable.

Sometimes it is.

Sometimes the “simple Saturday project” becomes several trips to the hardware store, a few new vocabulary words, and eventually a call to a professional who knew what to do in the first place.

Medicare can be a little like that.

You absolutely can compare plans and enroll on your own. But there’s a lot to consider, and sometimes the details that matter most are the ones you didn’t know to look for.

Working with a trained, independent agent gives you someone who knows what questions to ask, what details to check, and what plan options are available to you.

And here’s the part many people don’t realize: there is no additional cost to you for our help. Your premium for the same plan isn’t higher because you worked with us, and it isn’t lower because you enrolled on your own.

You still make the decision. You simply have someone in your corner to help you understand your options before you enroll and answer questions after you do.

Sometimes DIY makes sense.

Sometimes it just means doing all the work yourself.

Between health plans? Short-term medical insurance may help cover a temporary gap.
It may be an option if you are waiting for employer coverage to begin, between jobs, attending school, or moving from one plan to another.
These plans are offered outside the Marketplace and typically require medical underwriting. They may exclude preexisting conditions and do not include all the protections of ACA-compliant coverage.
Short-term medical insurance is not right for everyone, but it can be useful in the right situation.
Chris can help you compare your options and understand the limitations before you apply.
