Let’s talk license plates!

- If you MOVE to GA, you must go to the tag office and get a GA license plate within 30 days of your move.
- If you buy a used car from an individual, you must go and purchase a new license plate within 7 days.
- There is no need to place a “TAG APPLIED FOR” sign on your vehicle. Keep the bill of sale paperwork with you in case you are stopped by a police officer.
- If you buy a new or used car from an auto dealership they MAY (or not) help you with the license plate paperwork. If they do NOT help, you have to go and purchase a new license plate within 30 days. The temporary paper “plate” they place on the vehicle is good for a maximum of 45 days.

License plates belong to you, not the vehicle. If you SELL your vehicle, or junk it, REMOVE your license plate and keep it.
