Roughly 30 years ago, Marilyn’s mother, Anita Williams, planted a small vegetable garden in her backyard. Living in an area that wasn’t ideal for selling produce, Anita began carrying her freshly harvested vegetables to a well traveled roadside spot in Decatur. At the time, it was nothing more than an empty lot with a single concrete slab - today, that same spot is home to the Morgan County/Decatur Farmers Market.

Working long hours, seven days a week, Anita built a loyal customer base of people who traveled from all over to buy her produce. As the demand grew, she enlisted the help of her daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Robert, and together they built a family business rooted in hard work, quality, and community.

Today, Champion Farms sits on over 30 acres and grows a wide variety of delicious fruits and vegetables. Marilyn is one of the longest standing farmers at our market and has played such a vital role in making it the special place it is today.
