Isaias strengthens into a hurricane as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast; storm surge, damaging winds and flooding remain primary concerns.

Current Status
· Maximum sustained winds: 80 mph
· Movement: East-northeast at 9 mph
· Minimum central pressure: 979 mb
· Location: About 170 miles northwest of Progreso, Mexico, and 420 miles south-southwest of the Mouth of the Mississippi River.

Forecast Highlights
· Isaias is forecast to continue strengthening through early Friday and is expected to remain a strong hurricane as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast Friday night.
· Forecast guidance continues to indicate a potential northern Gulf Coast landfall late Friday into early Saturday.
· Storm surge remains the primary concern, along with damaging winds, flash flooding and isolated tornadoes.

Watches and Warnings
· Hurricane Warning: Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the Bay/Gulf County Line, Florida.
· Storm Surge Warning: Mouth of the Mississippi River to the Steinhatchee River, Florida.
· Tropical Storm Warning: Portions of coastal Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida outside the hurricane warning area.
· Storm Surge Watch: Steinhatchee River to Yankeetown, Florida.

Key Impacts
· Life-threatening storm surge remains possible along portions of the northern Gulf Coast, with water levels of 5 to 7 feet above ground level possible in portions of Alabama and Mississippi.
· Hurricane-force winds are expected within the warning area, with the potential for long-duration power outages.
· Rainfall totals of 3 to 7 inches, with localized amounts up to 10 inches, could result in flash, urban and river flooding.
· Isolated tornadoes are possible Friday into Saturday across portions of Alabama, the Florida Panhandle and southwestern Georgia.
