If you have employees, don’t wait until January to find out your payroll has a problem.
Take a few minutes to check:
- Are names, Social Security numbers, and addresses correct?
- Did you add every new employee who worked this year?
- Did you mark employees who no longer work for you as inactive or terminated?
- Were bonuses, commissions, reimbursements, garnishments, and other deductions entered correctly?
- Have all payroll tax payments been made?
- Were your quarterly payroll tax reports filed so far this year?
- Do your payroll reports match what your employees were actually paid?
- Do you have a total of what you paid each contractor, and a W-9 on file for each of them?
Finding a problem now gives you time to fix it before W-2s and 1099s are prepared. W-2s and 1099s must be sent to employees and contractors by February 1, 2027. One missing address or wrong amount can turn into a last-minute scramble.
Not sure if your payroll is clean? Send me a message and we’ll take a look.
