Great tips!!!

Great tips!!!

Folks, it could get chilly next week. We know many of you will be breaking out the space heaters. As you probably know, there are many fires every winter due to space heaters. Here is what you need to know:

* Probably the biggest thing is to keep these at least three feet away from EVERYTHING! Space heaters too close to bedding and furniture is a major cause of house fires. THREE FEET!!!!
* Plug a space heater directly into a wall outlet. An extension cord can overheat and cause a fire.
* Keep your space heaters out of high traffic areas where a child or pet could knock them over.
* Turn off a space heater when you leave the room or go to bed.
* Buy space heaters with thermostats that automatically shut off when they overheat and automatically shut off if knocked over.

Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office encouraging parents to check all candy on Halloween

Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott would like to warn parents about the possibility of drugs mixed in with candy this Halloween after a big fentanyl bust at LAX in California. It was reported that a suspect tried to get through security at the Los Angeles International Airport with bags of candy that contained some 12,000 pills of fentanyl on 10-19-2022. The opioid/fentanyl pills were contained inside packages of Skittles, Whoppers, and Sweet Tarts candy.

The drugs were seized by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and federal Drug Enforcement Agency agents assigned to a task force at the airport. The apprehension of narcotic sparked new calls for parents to be cautious this Halloween about candy their children bring home. There have been multiple reports this year of fentanyl manufactured in rainbow colors or disguised in candy wrappers. Below is an example, but law enforcement has found that it is manufactured in many different shapes and forms.

Fentanyl is now being produced to mimic candy. Only one of the fentanyl tablets can be fatal! If you suspect your child has ingested an illegal drug call 911 immediately. If you have NARCAN in your household administer NARCAN to the suspected overdose victim.

Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott stated "We want all of the Wagoner County Youth to enjoy Halloween this year, but we take a firm stance that the most important thing on Halloween is our children’s safety. With Halloween approaching, parents need to make sure they are checking their kids candy and not allowing them to eat anything until it has been inspected by parents. The W.C.S.O. recommends for parents to inspect EACH bag of candy. Check for signs that the factory bags of candy for compromised packaging. Empty all candy into a Ziplock baggie that each piece can be inspected prior to consumption.

If you or your children encounter anything that you suspect may be narcotics in candy boxes, do not touch it. We encourage you to immediately notify your local law enforcement agency. You can contact the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office at 918-485-3124 to report any suspicious items.
