Wanna be successful in sales? Be honest.

Today I had a contract come in. (For those that don’t know, the mortgage industry isn’t near as busy as it’s been the last few years). So when a contract comes in, you are always in a good mood.

After pricing the loan, my client would have to pay 3 points (almost 10k on this loan) for a rate due to a low credit score.

I called a friend also in the business and their pricing today was 2.5 points lower than me. (They had a promotion going).

I referred my client to them and lost the deal willingly.

I wouldn’t have slept knowing that someone who trusted me to take care of them would have proceeded with the price I had today.

Point is, honesty and integrity matter. Could I have made a good commission? Yes. But that’s not the reputation I want.

What goes around comes around. Doing the right thing is always best.
