The call is busy, the patient seems stable, and it feels easier to clip the lap belt and move on. But the shoulder and leg straps are not optional.

It only takes one hard brake, a sharp turn, or a tip for your patient to get seriously hurt and for you and your service to face the consequences.

The stretcher was designed with every strap for a reason. Take the extra ten seconds and secure them all. At the end of the day, patient safety is non-negotiable.

Read the full blog on patient securing straps from Risk Management Training Supervisor Lee Price below.

As fire and EMS professionals, we strive to make the safety of our crew and our patients a priority. We make every effort to provide the best care while not causing harm. The fire service changes you.

After years of responding to emergencies, seeing people on their worst days, making mistakes, learning hard lessons and watching life change in an instant, you don't walk away with the same perspective you started with.

But what if that experience can give you something, too?

Resilience isn't always about bouncing back. Sometimes it's about bouncing forward.

The stress, failures and difficult calls can teach us to be more capable, more intentional and more grateful for the life waiting for us when the tones stop.
