***ATTENTION*** SCAM ALERT! I just spoke with a man that was scammed out of $750 by a man claiming to be a Lieutenant with the Sheriff's Office. This "Lieutenant" said that the defendant would be released on an ankle monitor if the amount was paid. Navarro County does not contact family members of recently arrested individuals. These scammers are able to find information online about family members, including addresses and phone numbers. If you receive a call after a family member has been arrested, call the Sheriff's Office to verify, or any local bondsman.
It has been reported to our NCSO correctional staff today that someone has been calling family members of some new inmates who are in jail, giving them instructions on how to pay money to them, so the inmate will receive drug treatment/help and they will be released. This is a SCAM.
This is not something that can be done.
As well as the NCSO does not call to solicit money for past due tickets, fail to respond to jury summons, warrants or inmate release. As always, please, please call your law enforcement agency to verify these or any other suspicious requests and DO NOT become a victim of scammers.
