Former Corpus Christi City Councilman Elect Michael HunterMichael Hunter was appointed to be a commissioner on the Port of Corpus Christi today by a 7-2 vote. Only Mayor Paulette Guajardo and Council Woman Sylvia Campos didn't vote for Hunter. The i Port of Corpus Christi has been in operation since 1926 and is the nation's largest energy export gateway, the third largest export port for crude oil in the world, and has railroads connecting texas highways Interstate 37 and Highway 181. It is one of the state's biggest economic drivers and there is no young leader better suited to moving the Port of Corpus Christi into the future than Michael. Hunter received votes from Council members Elect Carolyn Vaughn, Gil Hernandez for City Council District 5, City Councilman Eric Cantu, Roland Barrera for City Council At Large, Everett Roy for City Council District 1, Mark Scott and Kaylynn Paxson. Congratulations Michael, well deserved!

Glad to be special guest on the second day of the new PRIME TIME DRIVE TIME RADIO TALK SHOW with local El Jefe Larry Elizondo from 7:30 to 9 a.m. The time slot was previously a part of the late Blake Farenthold's radio show and will air on RETRO COUNTRY 103.3 and 105.9. The former Congressman was a friend and client that I had known since running his winning campaign in 2010, sending shockwaves throughout the country and was considered by many to be the biggest national upset of that political cycle.
Blake's show has been divided into three different shows all running concurrently during weekdays. Blake's wife Debbie and his two daughters, Morgan and Amanda, will be on from 6 a.m. to 7:30 .m. followed by the PRIME TIME show with Larry Elizondo and then talk show host Eric Von Wade will take to the airwaves for the 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. slot to round out the days.
Great to know that morning talk is still alive and well in the Coastal Bend and let's not fail to honor Blake and the late Jim Lago for all the work they did to make these talk shows some of the best in the state.

Thanks to State Rep. Elect Todd Hunter and Stgate Sen. Mayes Middleton for all your hard work in convincing the Texas Department of Insurance to deny the outrageous 10 percent rate hike. You both rallied hundreds of Texans along the Coast and in the Coastal Bend and Galveston areas to fight this unwarranted money grab. Thankful Texas has these two great lawmakers to take up the banner of fair treatment for all Texans.

The Texas Department of Insurance said no to a proposal made by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association to increase rates for the coming year.

A few weeks back I attended my Golden Graduates ceremony (yep that means we graduated 50 years ago but I was a very young boy then) at Southern Nazarene University formerly Bethany Nazarene College. Look who I ran into -- the legendary Texas State Rep. Glenn Repp of Duncanville who in December turns 93 years old. No we didn't graduate at the same time but Glenn served his Texas constituents for three terms in the Texas House of Representatives as a member of the Republican Party of Texas. However his daughter Carolyn Repp Jaggers was in my class and remains a great friend to this day. After seeing Glenn again I decided I want to be like Glenn Repp when I turn 93 -- a Godfearing Christian, loved by his family, who hasn't forgotten how to have a good time and made a difference in this world.

Two SRA candidates will be making big announcements this month. Former Corpus Christi City Councilwoman Elect Carolyn Vaughn and current At-Large City Councilman Elect Michael Hunter will be making important announcements. Vaughn, a former city council member and Nueces County Commissioner, has said she will be running for an At-Large City Council position. Hunter, son of State Rep. Todd Hunter, is nearing term limits on his service as a city councilman after some strong and productive years ... and many believe he will be continuing his public service in a different role although he hasn't yet said what he is going to announce but has scheduled an event to make the announcement.

Thanks Elect Todd Hunter for helping keep our state safe.

This morning State Rep. Todd Hunter introduced House Bill 3262 at the State Affairs Committee Hearing. This bill aims to prevent tragic incidents like the Astroworld Festival in Houston, TX last November, where 10 people lost their lives due to compressive asphyxiation. The bill establishes a clear chain of command for event planning and requires permits and appropriate numbers of first responders to be present to ensure the safety of event-goers. Let's support this important step towards concert safety in Texas.

Canyon Texas Mayor Gary Hinders thanked two city commissioners for their service to the city by presenting them with two flags that flew over the Capitol on their birthdays, Serving on city councils and school boards is, I think, the most important public service Texans can agree to do. This one was particularly nice because Randy Ray, fourth from left, is my cousin's son and is completing his second term in office. Randy is the Director of Broadcast Engineering at West Texas A&M University. He's originally from Pampa but before he served on the Canyon city council he spent more than 15 years in Nashville working with some of the biggest names in country music, wrote a book, formed a Christian rock band Legend Seven which signed with Word Records and managed Sunset Studio, one of the biggest recording studios in the country. Great accomplishments by a man who has dedicated his life to making a difference in people's lives. His daddy is mighty proud of Randy and so is this cousin. Thanks Randy for all you do for Texas.
