Buc Days grew out of the bathing beauty contest and picnic called “Splash Days” occurring on North Beach each year. In 1938, the newly formed, Buccaneer Commission, decided to st

age a bigger and more elaborate celebration based on the history and legend of the days of long ago when pirate ships haunted the waters of the Gulf and preyed on merchantmen.
