🌟 BIG TAX NEWS for 2025: SALT Deduction Temporarily Increased 🌟

A major change is coming that could put real money back in your pocket.

For the past several years, families have been capped at a $10,000 SALT deduction on their federal taxes — covering property taxes, state income taxes, and local taxes combined. That cap has hit many homeowners hard, especially in communities where property taxes are high continue to rise.

But beginning in 2025, a new federal provision brings temporary relief:

✅ SALT Deduction Jumps from $10,000 to $40,000 in 2025
✅ $40,400 in 2026
✅ Small annual increases (1%) through 2029

Example:

2027 SALT limit: $40,400 × 1.01 = $40,804

This is a significant shift — and for many taxpayers, it may mean larger itemized deductions and lower federal tax bills during these years.

💡 What This Means for You

Homeowners with higher property taxes may finally see meaningful deduction room.

Some taxpayers who typically take the standard deduction may now benefit from itemizing.

It creates new planning opportunities for 2025, especially for those considering when to pay property taxes or make charitable contributions.

🧾 Bottom Line

This temporary increase could provide real tax relief for Maine families and small businesses. I’ll be putting out more updates — including who benefits most and how to prepare before next tax season.
