A sale doesn’t save you money if you weren’t going to buy it anyway.

That $80 item marked down to $40 looks like a great deal. And it might be, if it’s something you actually need. But if you weren’t planning to spend anything in the first place, you’re still $40 lighter.

Retailers are very good at making purchases feel urgent. Flash sales, countdown timers, and limited quantities can convince us to make decisions faster than we normally would.

The next time you’re tempted by an unexpected deal, give yourself a little time to think about it. If it’s still something you want tomorrow and it fits your budget, go for it. Sometimes the smartest purchase is the one you decide not to make.

Weekend Wellness: Whatever Happened to Your Hobbies?

Think about something you loved doing ten or fifteen years ago. Something that had nothing to do with work, household responsibilities, or making money.

Do you still do it?

As life gets busier, hobbies are often the first things we set aside. We tell ourselves we’ll get back to them when things slow down, but somehow there’s always another obligation waiting for us.

This weekend, try making time for an old interest. Dust off that guitar. Pull out your art supplies. Visit the library and find a book just because it looks interesting. Get together with friends for a board game. Spend an afternoon working on something simply because you enjoy the process.

You don’t have to turn every interest into a side hustle or every spare hour into something productive. Having fun is reason enough. And if you’ve outgrown your old hobbies, maybe it’s time to discover something new.
