We’re seeing a rise in rental scams targeting families and individuals searching for housing.
To protect yourself, please take a few simple verification steps before sending any money or personal information:
✔️ Always verify property ownership through your county tax assessor/property appraiser website
✔️ Confirm the listed owner matches the person claiming to rent the property
✔️ Never send deposits, application fees, or rent without verified ownership and legitimate business contact information
✔️ Do not wire money, use gift cards, or use payment apps for “holding deposits”
✔️ Legitimate property managers provide in-person showings, documentation, and verifiable business credentials
If someone pressures you, rushes you, or avoids verification .... that’s a red flag.
