Hello! My name is Patrick McGrath and I am the Insurance Agent for Veterans Home and Life Agency. I served in the Army reserves from October 2009- July 2013, then active duty from July 2013-November 2017 as a logistics officer. I served as a Plans Officer (wrote the Operations Orders for the Battalion (around 900 soldiers), Battle Captain (controlled the headquarters on the regimental support area-around 500 soldiers), Company Executive Officer, Battalion S3 Officer, Battalion Maintenance Officer and Platoon Leader. I was also stationed at Ft. Hood from November 2014 to November 2017. I was retired as a Captain after my assignment at Ft. Hood, and decided to make Central Texas my permanent home with my wife (common law married) and 6 children.

Besides being an insurance agent, I wear a lot of different hats. I own and operate; McGrath Contracting and Landscaping, McGrath Property Management ,Veterans Security (private security company), and I am a Texas Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Homestead. You can follow my page Patrick McGrath: Realtor in the State of Texas for more real estate info. I owned All in Poker club here in Copperas Cove until I sold it in 2020. I also hold a biology degree with a concentration in Pre Med and a minor in chemistry.

I decided to add the title of “insurance agent” to my repertoire to "protect families from additional hardship from financial insecurity during the hardest moments they will face" and definitely not to make more money.

I appreciate the Central Texas area as well for the no state income tax, low regulation for my businesses from the state government, the weather, and the low traffic we enjoy!
Most of my hobbies outside of running my businesses involve my family. I love spending time with my kids playing sports, making science experiments, building things, random games they made up, and just enjoying time with my tribe. You may find us at Texas Roadhouse sometime, as that is my favorite place to eat!
Thank you for visiting our page and I hope you decide to trust my agency with all of your insurance needs. Please Contact me for any of your real estate or insurance needs!

🤓Let's end the week with another article on retirement. A lot of question people ask is, how do I know how much I need and how long will it last? This of Omaha article gives some insight and advice on how to make your retirement last.

"How Long Will My Money Last in Retirement?

Everyone dreams of their retirement. You’ve probably had a “dream retirement” scenario in your mind for a long time. Maybe you want to travel or pursue a life-long passion. Whatever your goal, you’ve likely been saving towards it for most of your adult life. But imagine getting to retirement and realizing the money you’ve saved won’t last long enough or isn’t enough to allow you to do the things that you planned to do in retirement.

This scenario is probably the biggest single concern of retirees: running out of money. It doesn’t seem to matter how much money they have; the thought of not generating any outside income and living for many years off of an existing pool of assets and Social Security strikes fear in the hearts of many Americans.

That’s where a financial advisor can help. Making your money work harder in retirement is one of their primary jobs. They spend many hours studying and learning about how best to accomplish this goal and stay abreast the many tools and techniques that have been developed over the years to better understand this issue.

Some of these tools are nothing but sales pitches in disguise. Others are so complicated that many planners don’t even understand them fully (i.e. “Monte Carlo simulations”).

Effective retirement planning is not a “set-it-and-forget-it” discipline either. A financial plan for someone who is in the distribution phase of their lives is one that calls for continuous monitoring and adjustment, as well as attention to the markets, economy and political environment.

Still, all good plans to make your money last longer in retirement rely on a few key variables:

1. Getting the spending part right.
2. Understanding the total value of your liquid assets.
3. Correctly estimating the expected growth rate of your investments."

More healthy living articles, but today we are more focused on senior health. Mutual of Omaha gave us a great resource below!

"How to Stay Healthy at Every Age: 50+:

You’ve seen the idea of “healthy” change through the years. In fact, in many ways, your generation has helped shape and transform the definition. The Health + Wellness 2017 study reports on how even now different generations think of health and wellness in unique ways. For Boomers, being healthy generally means “having the energy for an active lifestyle.

But health isn’t just one thing – it is a combination of physical and mental well-being. It is also completely subjective, meaning that healthy to you may not look the same as healthy to your spouse or neighbor. The diet that worked for your friend may not yield the same results for you, and that’s ok! No weight, look or diet can make you “healthy” and finding what works for you is key!

If you’re wondering how to stay healthy, think about your life in two categories: physical and mental. Aspects of physical health include things like your activity level, stamina, and body health. Mental health can include your emotional wellbeing, happiness and satisfaction with life.

We want to help make your life easy and save you money! Check out this of Omaha article that talks about just that!

"9 Easy Moves to Save You Time and Money:

Back in the day, TVs were all basic black-and-white sets with on-off k***s and a choice of four channels. People saved money in a bank account, carried a department-store charge card, and could fit all their important papers in the proverbial shoebox.

Today’s big-screen entertainment centers come with hundreds of channels and multiple remotes. Likewise, consumers are free to choose among a vast array of financial products and services. That’s a boon to your finances, but it also makes life more complex and can become overwhelming. To save time and money, we suggest that you think one and done: one credit card to maximize your rewards points, one financial advisor that could address all your financial needs. Even if you make only one or two of our nine moves, you’ll cut your stress and have more time to kick back – and you may save money, too. And who hates having more time and money back in their life?"

1. Carry just one credit card in your wallet
2. Use a single insurer
3. Create one master password
4. Store your files in one place
5. Get your bank to pay your bills
6. Consolidate retirement accounts
7. Pick one broker or fund firm
8. Invest in an “all-in-one” fund
9. Sign up once and forget it

"How much life insurance do I need?

The amount of life insurance you need is unique to your situation and subject to change over time. “How much life insurance do I need?” could easily be translated to “how much will my family or loved ones need to be secure if something happens to me?” The answer to how big of a policy you need, or how much your life insurance should pay out in the end, lies in the number that will allow your loved ones to be financially secure.

There are many “rules of thumb” and formulas that people use to come up with the amount of life insurance they need. Some are as simple as having a policy that is worth 7-10 times your salary, while others are more complex. To keep it simple, but not too simple, answer these basic questions to help you start to identify your needs:

🤓Do I have people who rely on my income? How many?
🧐How much debt do I have?
🤑What are my family’s monthly living expenses?
👩‍🎓Are there any ongoing expenses, like college education or special care that you need to pay for?

Once you have these answers, you can multiply the amount of living and family expenses by the number of years you want the money to last. This will help you start to get a picture of what your policy should be worth to continue supporting your family."

A great way to save on costs while eating healthy is simply to plan ahead. Take a few minutes to think about your meals for the week. This week we are focused on life insurance. of Omaha explains some events in life where life insurance may help.

"7 Life Events Where Life Insurance Can Help:

As your life changes, so do your life insurance needs. To help protect your family, you’ll need a plan that offers flexibility.

The first factor you’ll want to consider is whether to choose a term or permanent life policy. Term life insurance offers an economical way to make sure your family has financial cover if you should pass away unexpectedly – but by definition, it comes with a time limit. Many people who choose term life are comfortable knowing they’re covered for 20, 30 or 40 years, and don’t really want more than that basic, bare bones safety net.

Permanent policies (which include Indexed Universal Life Insurance) work differently. This type of life insurance tends to cost a little more, but you may also get more from it. As long as you keep up with the premiums and keep your policy in force, you’ll never lose the protection of your life insurance backup plan.

What’s more, these policies typically accumulate “cash value,” which you can access through policy loans or withdrawals – generally without paying any taxes or penalties.* That’s a source of income that can come in handy during one of life’s unexpected emergencies. And with a specialized policy such as Indexed Universal Life, you can accumulate cash value at a rate of return that’s linked to a market index.

Most important, permanent policies can keep you covered for your whole life, at every step along the way, but especially during seven significant life events."

Living a healthy and happy life is a common goal for most people. It is important to have the plans in place for if something does happen to you or a loved one, as well as taking care of yourself in the process to prevent what you can. Our partners at Mutual of Omaha have great tips on this, as well as the following article to ensure your family is protected.

"5 Skin Health Tips for Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention:
More than 5 million skin cancer cases are reported in the United States each year, making it the most common form of cancer in the United States. Of those cases, an estimated 91,270 people are diagnosed with the most lethal form of skin cancer, Melanoma. While Melanoma only makes up about 1 percent of all skin cancer cases each year, it accounts for the most deaths.1

But there’s good news! There are things you can do to help prevent it. No one is invincible, so it’s important to not only care for your skin for skin cancer prevention, but also to check your skin regularly to detect signs of it."
