🚨 SCAM ALERT: Don't Fall for It!🚨
🚨 SCAM ALERT: Don't Fall for It!🚨
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about ongoing telephone scams. Scammers are posing as our deputies or officers, and each time, they change the name they use. These fraudsters might sound convincing, but don't be fooled! We are receiving dozens of phone calls across the county about these scams.
Here's what they're doing:
Posing as Sheriff's Office employees to demand payment, often using threats of arrest to scare you.
Asking for payment in unusual forms like Bitcoin or gift cards.
Spoofing our phone number to make it look like the call is from us.
Remember, we will NEVER call you to demand payment or ask for gift cards or cryptocurrency. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and verify by calling us directly at 936-760-5800, option 3.
Other scams include fake calls from so-called bonding companies asking for money to post bond. If you get such a call, don’t send money through CashApp, Zelle, Venmo, or any other app. Always verify the legitimacy by contacting the company directly.
Stay vigilant:
Don’t rush into any payments or decisions.
Never share personal information or payment details over the phone.
If in doubt, hang up and call us to confirm.
Spread the word and stay safe, Montgomery County!
