Salute to Lowndes County's Finest 9/11 Annual Event & First Responder Fund

Salute to Lowndes County's Finest 9/11 Annual Event & First Responder Fund To recognize and thank outstanding First Responders in Lowndes County.

Salute to Lowndes County's Finest takes place once a year to say thank you to all First Responders. The First Responders Recovery and Relief Fund has also been established to help local first responders and their families year round. The fund, financed solely by donations, provides an extra financial cushion in time of need. Salute to Lowndes County's Finest was established after local businessman

Mark Smith was a guest of NYPD at the World Trade Center site (Ground Zero) shortly after 9/11 and decided to create an event to honor local heroes. After several years, the benefit fund was established as another way to give back locally and has distributed thousands of dollars thus far in helping our local heroes and their families in a time of need.

Recently, we were able to visit with Airbus Helicopters, Inc. and while there, we presented them with an appreciation plaque for their financial support, once again, for our 2025 event and annual fundraiser. Airbus Helicopters has been one of our TOP partners for several years and we hope to have them onboard with us for many more years to come. THANK YOU AIRBUS HELICOPTERS!

Every year, Gary Sinise proves that heroes are never forgotten—and neither are their families.

Through his foundation’s Snowball Express program, over 1,000 children of fallen military members and first responders are flown to Walt Disney World for a week they will never forget.

We’re talking five days of pure magic… every hotel, meal, park ticket, and flight covered. Families are greeted at airports by cheering crowds, American flags waving, and volunteers hugging them like long-lost friends.

When they arrive at Disney, they ride the rides, watch the parades, and laugh together. But they also share tears and memories. One of the most moving traditions is the Walk of Gratitude down Main Street, U.S.A., where these children and surviving spouses march toward Cinderella Castle as Disney cast members and military veterans line the streets, clapping, saluting, and honoring the names of those who gave everything.

Then comes the quiet moment—families writing personal messages to their fallen loved ones, placing them in a glowing cauldron at the castle. It’s a space where grief is met with love, and loss is met with hope.

Gary Sinise has been doing this every single year since 2017, bringing tens of thousands of surviving family members together. It’s not for headlines.

It’s not for fame. It’s because he believes America must never forget the people who made the ultimate sacrifice—or the children and spouses they left behind.

In a world where a lot of people talk about helping… Gary Sinise just does it.

Year after year.

Plane after plane.

Smile after smile.

This is what honoring our heroes really looks like. 🇺🇸
