Hello everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful spring break!!. This week our featured country is THE PHILIPPINES!!

Fun fact:

- Halo-halo is a famous Filipino dessert snack.
It mixes shaved ice, evaporated milk, sweet beans, fruit, jelly, and purple yam. Many people eat it on hot days because it is cold and refreshing. Halo-halo means “mix mix.”You must stir the ingredients before eating so the ice, milk, beans, fruit, and ube blend together.

- Turon is a crispy banana snack.
It uses sliced saba banana and sometimes jackfruit. The banana is wrapped in a spring roll wrapper, coated in sugar, then fried until golden. Turon was influenced by Chinese spring rolls. Filipino cooks adapted the wrapper but filled it with sweet banana and jackfruit

- Pandesal is a classic Filipino breakfast snack.
Bakeries bake it very early. Many people buy it fresh and warm in the morning. Pandesal means “salt bread.”
The name comes from Spanish. Even though it means salt bread, it tastes slightly sweet.

We hope you learned something new about Filipino snacks and we hope to see you this Thursday!!

“Holi, also known as the “festival of colors” is a Hindu festival celebrating the start of spring, the season of hope and new beginnings.

Depending on regional traditions and where you are in the world, Holi can be a multi-day festival or an afternoon celebration. The first evening is known as Holi Purnima (the Holi full moon) and usually involves a bonfire as people gather around to sing and dance in hopes of overcoming negativity by getting rid of unsatisfactory thoughts and deeds from the previous year. On the next day, people of all ages wear white to throw colored powder (gulal) or colored water (pani) at one another. In the evening, everyone gets together with their family and friends to enjoy festive foods, sweets, and companionship.

Color plays a powerful role in Holi, symbolizing joy, renewal, and the arrival of spring. As vibrant powders are shared, social boundaries fade, representing unity, equality, and the belief that everyone is the same beneath the color. The celebration becomes a reminder of connection, forgiveness, and fresh beginnings.”
