After the COVID period, Wind/Hail deductibles (and prices) on homeowner's insurance policies saw significant increases. This effectively reduced coverage for damage to roofs and siding. A sober reminder of the importance of having quality homeowner's insurance. Ohio is not California in terms of property risk, but today's Wall Street Journal piece, 'A California Family's 16-Month Saga to Return Home After the Fires,' illustrates the difficult path after a significant loss.

Make sure your homeowners coverage limits are sufficient — among other items consider 1) extended replacement cost protection to help cover rebuilding if costs exceed your policy limits, 2) Condo owners and HOA members should also review Loss Assessment coverage to protect against shared rebuild or special-assessment costs from the association. Keep an up-to-date inventory of personal belongings (photos, receipts, and saved files make claims smoother), and talk with us about realistic timelines and coverage options so your family isn’t left underinsured during a long rebuild."

Monday night ride to Sunbury. I'm so grateful.

In February 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma. After completing active treatment in December 2025 and receiving clear scans in April 2026, I’ve been given the gift of more moments like this: family rides, fresh air, and hope for the future.

Years of research transformed melanoma from what was once almost always a death sentence into something many people can now survive. Researchers, doctors, and scientists dedicated their lives to understanding cancer and finding better treatments—and because of them, I’m still here riding alongside my family.
But the work is far from over.

Continued funding is critical not only for research itself, but also to attract and support the brilliant people committed to eliminating cancer once and for all.

Pelatonia 2026 - No Limits - is underway! Tonight was an event thanking “High Rollers” which is Pelatonia’s term for folks who raised $$$$$. I am one such person thanks to all of you who supported my ride in 2025 and matching funds added later.

There are untold numbers people, like me, walking the face of God’s Green Earth thanks to people with vision and determination to end cancer. People still die of cancer but many have been cured or live good lives thanks to innovative therapies and ongoing treatment.

Last year Pelatonia made its largest research grant ever to fund immuno-related cancer therapies. It is just this kind of therapy, funded and developed long before my stage 4 melanoma diagnosis three years ago, that lets me live as I do now, living a normal lifestyle, enjoying everything that is mine to enjoy.

I thank all of you again, and thank you and others in advance for continuing to donate funds needed to end cancer. Stay tuned!

To homeowners and property owners of all types: I’m sharing the advice from my local utility and encourage you to follow it as well. Aside from personal safety - always the most important - keep your properties safe by keeping them warm. Frozen pipes rupture causing water damage. The damage to the property and the plumbing must be repaired after the rupture. Let me know if you need to file a claim.

Dont wait to engage resources to help you clean up and recover. The wait for a company to help can get longer and damage more pronounced if you delay. I can connect you with reaources to help with the cleanup and repair.

Review your emergency preparedness plan, refresh your emergency kit and include pets in your plans. Make sure the elderly or those with medical conditions have a plan in place.

Ice and snow? Take it slow. Vehicle accidents are a leading and often-preventable cause of power outages. Double your following distance and slow down when driving in winter weather conditions.


Heat your home safely. If using a space heater, place it on a hard, level surface out of high-traffic areas and at least 3 feet away from anything flammable, such as curtains and bedding. Turn off space heaters when you leave a room.

Stay Away to Stay Alive
Remember, all downed lines are dangerous — they carry an electric current that can cause serious injuries or death. Stay as far away as possible from any fallen wire and anything it may be touching. Report hazards to 911 and AEP Ohio.

We strongly encourage customers with life-supporting medical equipment to have a backup power source and an alternate plan in the event of a power outage.
