With warmer temperatures and snow melting this week here are a few reminders: Make sure gutter downspouts are uncovered and able to drain freely so roof snow moisture has somewhere to go. Check sump pumps and battery back ups if you have one. Many do not realize sump pump coverage is an endorsement on your homeowners policy. If you have a finished basement or valuables in your basement, you need this endorsement. Check your policies. Not a bad idea to shovel snow a couple of feet away from your foundation. As the temps begin to rise this week you might find out that the pipes at your home or house of worship were frozen. Some tips if your pipes would happen to burst: Know where your main water shut off valve is and turn it off immediately. Call a plumber and ServiceMaster Restoration by RITE WAY (Damon 740-808-2281) who will come out to start drying the area to prevent mold. And don't forget to take photos/videos for your claim. Life saving check on those newer cars you are purchasing for yourself and your kids. If you are trapped inside your vehicle on fire or in sinking water, you need to be able to break your window. Check your cars today to see if your window is "tempered" glass. You will find this stamped on the corner of your window. If not, you may have the newer non-breakable windows and those can not be broken. Even with the window breaking tools that many of us have. (Police and fire can not get to you either.) One is 3 cars have non-tempered glass because people love the quite ride they provide. Check yours today or at least check BEFORE you buy. It may save your life.
