Okay, I have not been good abouting keeping up with this page since the benefit but it's about time. Let's let our prayers for Lisa be heard! Below is an update from Lisa:

Just hanging around the chemo chair getting my 3rd of 6 treatments. Kind of a quiet appointment today as we are in a holding and testing pattern. The test that was sent to Salt Lake showed increased activity in the cancer cells in relation to the chemo cells, but not as high as it could have been or as we expected. We will do the exact same test in 2 weeks to see if they moved up again. Also will have another PET scan in a couple of weeks to monitor progress of chemo and/or cancer. We are going to try to reduce the pain meds to see if I can tolerate less. That would be nice not to feel so groggy. As I look around the chemo "room", I feel so blessed and lucky to be given the chance to live and fight this disease. What a wonderful gift He has given to me - the opportunity to live each day like it could be the last and make each one count!!!! Somedays it is easier than others but no matter what life throws at us, we need to keep it "Christ" centered and thank Him for the "opportunity" to get it right. Thank you for your support and prayers. We are grateful and humbled by the actions and kindness shown to our family.

Rainy Chemo Day
Hello everyone - looks like a rainy day here in Omaha. I am sitting in my recliner hooked up to my "life juice". Should be done by 3 or so. Talked with Dr. Block about all the things going on and hopefully we got some things worked out. I have been having quite a bit of pain throughout my chest and she feels that the edema is causing that issue along with a lot of swelling throughout my upper abdomen. This in itself could be the culprit of the pain I am having. We also are going to set up a scan for Dr. Sheehan to look at my lungs and nodes around them. That should happen before the next appointment in three weeks. As far as the no sleeping issue, she wants me to try to add a Tylenol PM to my nightly regimen and see if that helps, otherwise we need to look at a different type of sleeping pill. The lack of sleep could also be contributing to the higher pain as the tolerance goes down the more tired I am.

This "room" of people is amazing somewhat in itself. Cancer does not care how old or young you are, male or female, or what walk of life you are from - it just does what it wants and what a wonderful team of doctors and nurses trying to out guess it. It seems to take on a life of it's own as I sit around here listening to everyone's "stories" about this horrible disease. Hope abounds but so does fear. Most of us have decided one thing though, live each day to the fullest and let God be your guide. I know those words are used quite often, but what else do we have when it really comes down to it? I am so lucky to have people in my life to be with me here, there are too many that are by themselves. I thank God for each of you and pray for you also. Alan and I want to thank everyone one again for the amazing benefit a few weeks ago. God has truly blessed us in so many ways. Take care and happy spring.

Trust and Faith
Hello All! First and foremost - Thank you for an amazing weekend last week. We are so grateful and humbled by your love and generosity we have received. I hope everyone had a wonderfrul time and enjoyed some great food, drinks, and company.

Dr. Shehan called today and said my lung tests from last week came back positive for sarcoidosis. CT scan will be scheduled to find out more. I don't have a ton of information on this but I am sure we will find out soon. At least it helps explain the way I have been feeling. I have been working with the therapists at Columbus Hospital for the edema in my left arm. Right now I have a full wrap on it from my hand to my shoulder. This has to stay on till Friday. It is like a cast that bends a little at the elbow. It is wrapped from the bottom up to force fluid out of the arm. Once we get the arm back to normal, I will wear a compression sleeve all the time.

So once again, I am back to Faith in God and Trust in His plan. Luke 1:37 says nothing is impossible with God. I pray that I live my life as His will desires and give thanks in ALL things. I do have a crazy thing that I will leave in your head - after therapy today at the hospital, here I am walking out with my b***s in a Walmart Halloween bag. It is amazing how things just seem nuts at times. Great to see everyone last week and God bless you for your kindness and giving.

Amazing Night of Love
What an amazing sight of love and kindness last night! Words cannot express our gratitude and thanks to everyone who came out and supported the benefit. Even if you could not attend, your support and prayers are felt by us. The donations of food, auctions items, hard work, and many planning sessions made this night one that our family will never forget. God's power and presence was keeping a watchful eye on this wonderful event and He once again did not let us down. I did not get to talk to everyone I wanted to, but just know how much we appreciated your support and well wishes. God bless you for all your kindness and love and I am going to fight this thing and not let it win. Love you all and take care.

Update from Lisa, if you know Lisa you know she wrote it! ;)

Funny Things about B***s
Hi There! Just thought I would check in and tell everyone hello and update on what is happening. Blood work is coming back normal since the last chemo, so that makes me happy. I test every Wednesday and today levels were good. Chemo is scheduled for next Thursday and I meet with the lung specialist that day also. We need to find out what is in the lungs for sure and how to treat what is in there. Something grew in them from last December and the question is now what it is and how do we treat it. I am still so excited the test came back benign on them!!! I was hoping we could move chemo a little further out from the benefit on March 31st, but doctors did not want to mess with the schedule. I understand and am ok with it so praying for the same outcome as last chemo – just fatigue and body aches. I can handle that. I still have my hair which is nice. They told me it would be out two weeks from the first chemo which is tomorrow, so maybe I can escape that for a little longer. (or more???) It is completely gray and about ½ inch long – and a little wedge on top. Kind of funny looking but growing really fast.

I have a few thoughts on prosthesis though. Went to American Cancer Society Monday and picked out some b***s. Not too many people can just buy them out of a box. Took me a while to realize and figure out why they are not sold in pairs – not everyone has both cut off at the same time. They are really weird – I have now figured out why people have b***s – they hold your bra in place. Have you ever tried to put on a bra and not have b***s to hold it in place or down? It does not work very well. It does create an opportunity for a good laugh. So there I am – a bra on with no b***s and then you take and load them up to the size you want. And like magic, you put on your shirt and feel somewhat “normal”. Whatever that is. I hope people tell me if they have slid up around my neck and I don’t know it. It seems a little like a weapon, such as a slingshot loaded with silicone bombs. I actually made Alan hold one - he seemed a little uneasy about them to. They sleep in the own little molds in a box each night to retain their shape. Wonder what would happen if I stored them in a cone? That would look pretty crazy the next day. Never rule out any options or opportunities. Any why does your stomach look bigger without them?

Our family is amazed daily by God’s grace He is showing us. He is working miracles through so many of you and His gifts never cease. Humbled and grateful is how we are feeling and may your blessings to us be returned to you tenfold. Looking forward to seeing you next week and have a great week. There is those amongst us who make an amazing benefit team. We thank you for your love and prayers and very hard work. Love you!!!!!
