Saturday was the installation of the Draeger Cherokee County Farm Bureau Century Farm recognition rock. Custom designed and finished, it is a monument to the type of endurance shown by farmers everywhere and marks the perseverance and dedication of the Draegers.

We would like to take time to thank everyone for coming to our annual dinner and meeting September 21st. Thank you to our speakers Thomas Eisenbarth, founder of Grounded and Rachelle Coe, founder of Wild Haven for their motivational, informative and moving speeches. We would also like to thank our sponsors who graciously allowed us to present such an important topic, Spring River Mental Health and Wellness, Frontier Farm Credit, American Bank, Labette Bank, Great Plains Federal Credit Union, and Columbus Veterinary Clinic. We would also like to recognize our ag ambassador Bailey Logan, our farm family of the year the Greg Mowdy family, the century farm award recipient Roger Draeger and family, the sesquicentennial farm award to the Teel family, and the friend of ag award to Dale Helwig. Our recipient of the Paul Schmidt Memorial/Cherokee County Farm Bureau scholarship was Caden Quick who is attending Pittsburg State University. Thank you to everyone who made it to our dinner as well as attend our very important guest speakers on the topic of su***de prevention and awareness. Cherokee County Farm Bureau wants to be an advocate of ag and its members of the community. As we have presented grain bin safety, scam and fraud awareness, and our most recent su***de prevention effort, we would love to hear from you. DEADLINE APPROACHING:
If your organization is interested in applying for the Dale Roberds Ag Education Annual Grant, submissions are due by September 30, 2026 at 5 PM to the Cherokee County Farm Bureau, 200 East Pine St., Columbus, Kansas. The grant funds are to be used for enhancement in technology, educational resources, occupational tools, and or equipment for any Cherokee County FFA chapter, 4-H club, or HYA camp. Grant funds are to be used for a club or organizational needs and are not for individual use. For other details involving the grant, contact the Farm Bureau office.

USDA reported in their 2022 census of agriculture that Cherokee County, Kansas, had 608 farms with 258,413 acres of land in farms. That is a big responsibility for many people and to carry that responsibility can sometimes weigh heavy. That is why we are discussing mental health at our annual meeting on September 21st.
