A funny thing happened to me the other day. I was with my mother at a local farm supply store. We were buying flowers for my patio flowerpots. When we returned to my car, I helped mom get in and get situated. As I walked back to the driver’s side of my car, a young man began approaching me. While this made me a little nervous, I was also curious. He had a white envelope in his hand and appeared cheerful enough. He said he had a strange favor to ask so I decided to hear what he had to say.
He explained that he and his wife were expecting their first child. They were planning a gender reveal party and trying to order the cake. Only one problem…they forgot that the gender was to be the revealing of a secret but someone needed to tell the baker the gender! His favor was to open the envelope and secretly communicate the baby’s gender to the baker for their big announcement.
What an honor it was to play this small yet crucial role in their exciting announcement. It reminded me that there is joy all around us. The excitement in the faces of this young couple showed their anticipation for the future. Their future, the future of their child, and all that he/she would bring. It also reminded me that, after being in the insurance industry for over 25 years, I can help protect the future of young families like this each day. Protecting the promises they’ve made for a life together. Protecting the future of a new arrival and all the opportunity they have ahead.
While this young man asked a favor of me, as we parted, I realized he did the favor for me. 🩷💙
