With the forecast of freezing temperatures and snow in our area. These conditions can lead to icy roads, slippery sidewalks, and potential damage to your home, such as frozen or burst pipes and roof stress from heavy snow accumulation.
Please take precautions by insulating pipes, clearing snow safely, and driving carefully. It’s also a good time to review your insurance coverage to ensure you’re protected against winter-related damages. If you have any questions or need assistance, we’re here to help.

**WINTER STORM WARNING - SAFETY TIPS**
A winter storm warning has been issued for our area. Sedalia Fire Department wants to ensure everyone stays safe during this weather event. Here are critical safety tips:
**HEATING SAFETY:**
- Never use your oven or stove to heat your home
- Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn
- Never leave space heaters unattended or use them while sleeping
- Ensure smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are working
- Have chimneys inspected and cleaned before use
**TRAVEL:**
- Avoid travel if possible - stay home and stay safe
- If you must travel, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle (blankets, water, snacks, flashlight, phone charger)
- Let someone know your route and expected arrival time
**POWER OUTAGES:**
- Never use generators indoors or in garages - carbon monoxide is deadly
- Keep generators at least 20 feet from your home with exhaust directed away from windows and doors
- Never connect generators directly to home wiring
**FROZEN PIPES:**
- Let faucets drip slowly to prevent freezing
- Open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around pipes
- Know where your main water shut-off valve is located
**EMERGENCY:**
- Call 911 for any emergency
- Check on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance
