This is so good.

ALMOST 30 YEARS MARRIED. FULL-TIME MINISTRY THE WHOLE TIME. AND IT STARTED IN A TWO-DOOR HONDA CIVIC…

I remember being newly married, traveling to preach with a child in that cramped little car, sleeping on the fold-out couch of a host pastor. No platform. No portfolio. No guarantee any of it would work.

And Joy believed in the vision anyway.

Here's what the world doesn't see behind the platform: my wife carries a major spirit of humility, and she is the hardest worker you will ever meet. Ministries, businesses, family... she has built alongside me through every single season, and she's never once needed the spotlight to do it.

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Strength and honour are her clothing." (Proverbs 31:10, 25)

People ask me how we've lasted three decades in marriage AND full-time ministry when most don't survive one of them. Here's my honest answer: BALANCE.

And I don't mean balance the way most people mean it. I mean actually being a balanced person:

1. My life is not about what you see on a stage. My life is about being a good man. Being a husband is as spiritual as being a preacher. The man at home is the real ministry... the platform is just where he visits.

2. Balanced in the Word and in prayer. Not swinging to extremes. Not living off hype. Rooted, daily, steady.

3. Having people who can rebuke me. Friends who can correct me and tell me when I'm wrong, even when it stings and irritates me. "Faithful are the wounds of a friend." (Proverbs 27:6) Unaccountable men don't last 30 years at anything.

"Two are better than one... and a threefold cord is not quickly broken." (Ecclesiastes 4:9, 12) Me, Joy, and the Lord. That cord held through the Honda Civic years, and it holds today.

Joy, you are the proof that God gives good gifts. Almost 30 years, and I'd get back in that cramped little car with you tomorrow.

Honor your covenant. Stay balanced. Build together.
