Did you know that October 28th, 2019 is National First Responders Day? I know it's the end of July, but I would like to take a moment to focus on one group of first responders that I feel often gets over-looked: EMS. Emergency medical services are so vital to the health of every American. I don't know how many times EMTs have helped me and my family with their quick response time and swift care. My son needed help on his first birthday, and not only did the EMTs get out there quickly and make sure he was okay, but they gave him a small stuffed Koala that he still has to this day, over 12 years later. I would like to see more done to help these folks take care of our community and recognize them for the incredible service they do each and every day. Renters insurance is possibly one of the most under-utilized forms of protection, in my experience. So many people don't realize how easy and how affordable it can be to get renters insurance, and how little their landlord's liability applies to their possession in case of fire, smoke, water, or other types of damage. I'm making it a point to talk to all my renting friends about renters insurance to protect their personal property, and got my own. Let's sit down and see what things you would want to protect in case the unexpected happens to your home today!

Growing up, I heard my parents talk about auto, life or home insurance, but I never heard them talk about renters insurance. Once I started working for COUNTRY Financial®, I quickly learned I’m not alone. In fact, most renters either don’t know about it, or don’t think they need it.

During a Dartmouth commencement speech, Fred Rogers (yes, THAT Mr. Rogers) said, "Deep down, we know that what matters in this life is more than winning for ourselves. What really matters is helping others win, too." I've been thinking on this one a lot today, not only because the trailer for the Mr. Rogers movie starring Tom Hanks came out today, but also because it's a reminder of the sort of professional and the sort of human I want to be: one whose work is also an act of service. That any prosperity I gain is not at the expense of others but shared with those in need, built up in the service of building up my friends and community members. I want my career to be an act of neighborliness. I want to be more than an insurance agent; I want to a resource, a helper, a friend, to everyone that walks through my door or speaks with me on the phone. Thank you all for being my neighbors.

A great quote I picked up from the internet this weekend is "Maybe confidence isn't the absence of insecurity but knowing you have worth despite it." Starting your own business, building your brand, turning your passion into revenue; these things can be really daunting. However, your worth is intrinsic, and even if you have doubts or struggles, remember that you're never an imposter if you are holding fast to your own values. Keep moving forward!
