Dear Friend,

The Department of the Interior is fast-tracking efforts to strip away critical protections in the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA). Proposed changes in its recent Draft Environmental Impact Statement would make permanent the bird-killing policy the agency adopted in 2017, which overturned decades of bipartisan precedent and gives companies a free pass for bird deaths from industrial hazards such as open oil pits and power lines. It's time for Congress to respond to this attack on America's birds.

Col. Douglas L. Johnson, Sr. and his beloved wife of 50 years, Beatrice “Bea” Taylor Johnson, devoted their lives to public service. Their home in Santee, S.C.—The BeaHive—was always buzzing with activity, hosting gatherings of all kinds. These gatherings ranged from church activities, to sorority and fraternity events, to fundraisers for politicians who have gone on to have impact locally and nationally. The list goes on and on. Now, in tribute to their parents’ legacy, the Johnson family is formalizing a decades-long tradition by establishing The BeaHive .

Dear Family and Friends,

Some of you know that my siblings and our children have started Black Eagle Associates. We are starting an exciting new endeavor and we invite you to join us in this venture that will ultimately benefit our larger family and community. We are in the process of developing our family home, affectionately known as “the BeaHive,” into a legacy property. You may have spent some time there at family, church, community, fraternity or sorority events. You may have visited our parents for support or advice. The family home has been more than a house for our families. Please take a few minutes to learn more about our plans for the house and the nearby community. Over time, we hope to expand so that we can serve Orangeburg County, SC more broadly.
