Hail Storm Reminder: Protect Yourself & Your Insurance Claim
Following hail events, our area is often flooded with out‑of‑town contractors going door to door. Some may promise to “waive your deductible,” while others may ask you to sign documents allowing them to handle your insurance claim.
Please protect yourself by keeping the following in mind:
✅ Ask for proof of insurance.
Always request a Certificate of Insurance (COI) before allowing any contractor to inspect or work on your property.
🚫 Do NOT sign over your insurance claim rights.
Never sign documents that assign or transfer your claim to a contractor. Doing so removes you from the claims process, limits your ability to communicate directly with your insurance company, and gives the contractor full control and leverage over the claim.
🏠 If you have obvious or significant damage:
• Locate your wind/hail deductible on your homeowners insurance
• If applicable, locate your comprehensive deductible on your auto policy
• Contact us or your insurance carrier promptly;
Many insurers now prefer claims to be filed online. Waiting to file can delay adjuster contact and slow the entire process.
🔧 If damage appears minor:
You may have a reputable local contractor perform temporary repairs and provide an estimate, but always confirm your wind/hail deductible first so you understand your out‑of‑pocket expense.
If you have questions or want guidance before taking next steps, we’re here to help you make informed decisions and protect what matters most.
