Group work life insurance policies work just like this. Read this.
The facts are, how many people do you know die on the job? Not many. Most people get sick or hurt and can no longer go to work. They then pass away due to there illness or injury. Therefore you are not an active employee and it will not pay out.

This is why it it important to have a life insurance policy outside of work.
