Ten years ago, one phone call changed the way I looked at insurance forever.
I spent nearly eight hours on the phone with a woman whose life had fallen apart.
She had emptied her savings trying to keep her son out of jail. Every dollar mattered.
If I could have saved her just $10 a month, she would've switched.
Not because she was shopping.
Because she needed hope.
When we finished our conversation, she asked,
"Can I call you back tomorrow?"
I had to tell her no.
There wasn't a direct extension.
No way for her to reach me again.
I was told to trust that the next representative would take care of her.
But I knew something then that I still believe today.
People don't build trust with companies.
They build trust with people.
That conversation stayed with me for years.
It became one of the reasons I eventually opened my own independent agency.
Not because I wanted to own a business.
Because I wanted relationships that didn't end when the phone call did.
People often ask why I don't obsess over being the cheapest quote.
Here's why.
Nobody has ever called me during a house fire to thank me for saving them $500 a year.
They call to ask one question:
"Am I covered?"
That's the question I want answered long before tragedy ever strikes.
Insurance isn't about selling policies.
It's about protecting someone's years of sacrifice, hard work, and dreams.
That phone call happened years ago.
I never got to talk to her again.
But she helped build the agency I own today.
I didn't write this to sell insurance.
I wrote it because it's a reminder that insurance isn't something you appreciate when you buy it...
You appreciate it when life doesn't go according to plan.
If this story made you stop and think about your own coverage, and you'd like a second opinion, my team and I would be happy to help.
Even if you're not our client, we're always happy to answer questions and point you in the right direction.
That's what our tagline "Insurance With A Purpose" has always meant to me: putting people before policies.
If we can help protect what you've worked so hard to build, we'd be honored to earn that opportunity.
