Adding a teen to the policy doesn’t have to mean an automatic huge jump.

A lot of companies price it like the kid already crashed.
Guilty until proven innocent.

Independent Agents can compare carriers that still underwrite the driver.
Clean record.
Household listed the right way.
Then the rate reflects that not a flat “teen tax.”

Two things that trip Colorado Springs families up:

Waiting to add them. Most contracts put listing household drivers on you. Unlisted isn’t a loophole, as the responsibility is there, but contractually you need to add the drivers in your household or you risk your claim being denied.

A huge mistake is assuming every company prices teens the same. They don’t.

Here’s a sad fact your insurance agent or company may have never explained to you:

The state minimum liability limits make you legal to drive. They do not necessarily make you financially secure.

If you cause a serious accident and the damages exceed your insurance limits, that remaining balance doesn’t magically disappear.

If someone obtains a judgment against you in Colorado, your wages can potentially be garnished. Under Colorado law, that can mean up to 20% of your disposable earnings, subject to certain protections and limitations.

Think about that for a second.

You saved a few dollars every month by choosing the lowest liability limits possible… but one serious accident could potentially cost you for years.

This is why I often ask clients:

Would you rather pay a little more now to transfer the risk, or potentially pay a lot more later by keeping the risk yourself?

As an insurance agent, I cannot make that decision for you.

And frankly, no agent should.

My responsibility is to explain the risk, explain your options, and help you understand what you are actually protecting.

Because the more assets and income you build, the more there is to protect.

Your house.
Your savings.
Your future income.
Your investments.
Your business.
Your family’s financial future.

The target doesn’t get smaller as you become more successful.

It gets bigger.

Ten years ago, one phone call changed the way I looked at insurance forever.

I spent nearly eight hours on the phone with a woman whose life had fallen apart.

She had emptied her savings trying to keep her son out of jail. Every dollar mattered.

If I could have saved her just $10 a month, she would've switched.

Not because she was shopping.

Because she needed hope.

When we finished our conversation, she asked,

I had to tell her no.

There wasn't a direct extension.

No way for her to reach me again.
