Unfortunately, our agency is experiencing some issues with continuity today due to the Global Outage reported this morning.

⚠️ Service Update: AWS Global Outage Impact

On October 20, 2025, Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a major global outage that disrupted a wide range of popular websites and business applications for several hours.

What Happened
At approximately 12:11 a.m. ET, AWS reported widespread issues originating from its US-East-1 region in Northern Virginia—one of its largest data centers. The outage caused elevated error rates and latency across multiple AWS services, including DynamoDB and DNS operations, which affected web traffic routing and data connectivity for numerous companies.

Who Was Affected
The disruption extended across many major platforms and systems that rely on AWS infrastructure, including:

Snapchat, WhatsApp, and Signal
Amazon.com, Prime Video, and Alexa
Coinbase, Robinhood, and Venmo
Fortnite, Roblox, Ring, Netflix, and Zoom
Media outlets such as The New York Times and Disney, among others.
Even McDonald’s ordering systems and certain government and banking websites experienced temporary downtime.

Cause and Resolution
The root cause appears to have been a DNS configuration issue that disrupted database connections, including to DynamoDB. AWS engineers began working to stabilize the systems immediately and successfully restored most operations by 6:00 a.m. ET, with services returning to normal through the morning hours.

Impact on Our Agency
Because many of our operational platforms are hosted through AWS, Powerhouse Insurance Consultants is experiencing limited access and functionality interruptions today. While services have largely been restored, some programs continue to experience brief delays as systems fully stabilize.

We appreciate your patience as we monitor the situation and confirm full restoration of all platforms. If you experience any issues or need assistance, please reach out directly at [email protected].

Question:
If your client accounts was hacked tomorrow, do you know what steps you’d legally be required to take?

Here’s a hint: it’s not just calling IT (if you even have one)
➡️ You’d be responsible for notifying every client.
➡️ You may need to pay for 12–24 months of credit monitoring.
➡️ You’d cover downtime + lost income while systems are locked.

Scary? Yes.
Avoidable? Absolutely.

👉 We break it all down (and how cyber liability coverage protects you) in this week’s blog: www.phinsurance.net

If your WiFi is hacked, a staff member clicks a phishing link, or your laptop with client data is stolen… the responsibility still falls on you, the business owner.

That means:
🔹 You notify every affected client
🔹 You pay for credit monitoring
🔹 You cover downtime + reputation costs

The good news? Cyber liability insurance fills the gaps your processor doesn’t.

What really happens after a data breach?

It’s not just about hackers.
If client data is exposed, most businesses are legally required to:
🔹 Notify every affected customer
🔹 Pay for 12–24 months of credit monitoring
🔹 Cover legal, forensic, and downtime costs

Even small breaches can add up to thousands out of pocket.

We just broke down the 5 steps that happen after a breach — and how cyber liability coverage protects your business.

Most small business owners think data breaches are a “big corporate problem.” But the truth is, small businesses are the number one target for hackers. Why? Because they’re easier to break into — and one breach can cost thousands before you even realize what happened. The Breach HappensIt cou...

A few weeks ago, I connected with a business that was stuck. They couldn’t get their Certificate of Insurance approved through the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department — and because of that, they couldn’t get their license renewed.

No license = no work = no paycheck. 💸

Within just 3 days, we were able to:
✅ Take over the policy (BOR signed).
✅ Fix the issues holding up the approval.
✅ Get the Certificate approved and their license renewed.

If you’ve ever struggled to get your licenses renewed with the Regional Building Department because of Certificates of Insurance, send me a message!

Today, we take a moment to pause and remember those who lost their lives in a senseless act of terrorism.

We pause to honor the first responders who ran toward danger, the families forever changed, and the resilience of a nation that came together in the face of unimaginable loss. May we never forget the lives taken, the sacrifices made, and the unity we found in the aftermath.
