With it being wind and hail season, we would like to discuss Wind and Hail Buy-Down Policies and why they matter.
Many policies, especially in Colorado, have a seperate wind and hail deductible that is higher than their standard deductible. Instead of a flat $1,000 or $2,500 deducible, wind and hail deducibles are often a percentage of the dwelling's insured value. (Coverage A).
For example, if your home is insured for $500,000, and you have a 2% wind and hail deductible, your out-of-pocket cost after a covered wind or hail loss would be $10,000.
Why you should consider it:
- Protect your savings. Instead of having to come up with thousands of dollars after a storm, a buy-down policy helps minimize your out-of-pocket costs. With our current carriers, you can buy your deductible back down to $2,500.
- Makes repairs easier. Whether your roof is damaged by hail or your home is affected by high winds, you'll have less financial stress when it's time to make repairs.
- Provides peace of mind. Severe weather is unpredictable, especially in Colorado. Knowing your protected from an overbearing deductible can make recovering from a storm much less overwhelming.
- Affordable added protection. In many cases, a deductible buy-down policy costs far less than you think. We just wrote one where we bought the deductible down from $6,220 to $2,500, and the premium for the buydown policy was $320.
