📋 Big change coming for 1099s in 2026!
The federal reporting threshold for Form 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC is jumping from $600 to $2,000 for payments made in 2026. That means fewer forms for some businesses — but it doesn’t mean you can skip good recordkeeping.
Here’s the catch: not every 1099 type follows this new threshold, and payment method still matters (credit card and payment app transactions are handled differently than checks or cash). If you pay contractors, freelancers, or vendors, now’s the time to get your systems in order — not in January.
✅ Still collect a W-9 before the first payment
✅ Track payments by vendor and method all year
✅ Know which rules apply to which vendor type
