FAFSA Friday Quick Tip: Be Prepared

Make sure that you and your contributors have created your studentaid.gov username and password, which you’ll use to complete the FAFSA online.

And while data sharing has streamlined the process and made it possible for some information to be automatically filled into your form, it’s good to have important documents on hand, such as your Social Security number, government-issued identification document, tax returns from 2025, and current bank statements.

Attention Borrowers!

The Department of Education (ED), in collaboration with the Treasury Department, announced a new online portal to support borrowers who have defaulted on their federal student loans and aims to return them to repayment.

Under this new portal, borrowers will have information to understand the consequences of default, and will be able to compare paths to get out of default.

Additionally, in an effort to modernize the process, borrowers will now be able to apply online for loan rehabilitation or consolidation, a process that previously was mail and fax-based.

Yesterday, our Financial Aid team met with the Coffeyville Community College - Track and Field, Cross Country team to talk about making informed decisions when it comes to paying for college.

Students learned about loan options, interest, repayment periods, and why it's important to understand exactly what you're signing up for before borrowing.

💡The takeaway? Only borrow what you need, know what you'll owe, and remember—student loans have to be paid back.
