Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend a lunch presentation with my Financial Executive Women’s (FEW DSM) group led by Dr. Richard Deming, oncologist and founder of Above + Beyond Cancer. His message was a meaningful reminder about the importance of challenging ourselves, encouraging and loving others, and not taking time for granted.
He opened with the poem, “The Facts of Life” by Padraig o Tuama, which I encourage everyone to look up and enjoy for its simple, yet profound messages.
Dr. Deming shared so much wisdom; but one of the takeaways that struck a chord with me was his metaphor about diamonds: if diamonds were as common as grains of sand, they would hold little value. It’s their scarcity that makes them precious. The same is true of our days. Because they are limited, each one carries value and significance.
It was an inspiring and timely reminder to be intentional with our time and generous with our encouragement.
