Dollar for dollar, commercial umbrella insurance is one of the most cost-effective policies a small business can buy. For a relatively small annual premium, you can add $1M or more in protection over your existing limits.

Why so affordable? Because your underlying policies pay first. The umbrella only kicks in on large, less-frequent claims — so it costs far less than raising the limits on each policy individually.

For businesses with customers, vehicles, or a physical location, it's often the smartest coverage you can add per dollar spent.

A common myth: "EPLI is for big companies with HR departments." In reality, small businesses are often MORE exposed — they rarely have formal HR policies, documented processes, or legal teams to lean on.

Employment claims can come from:
• A current employee
• A former employee
• A job applicant you didn't hire

Hiring, firing, promotions, scheduling, workplace conduct — every one of these is a potential claim, no matter how small your team is.

If you employ people, you have this exposure. Let's make sure you're protected.

A BOP is built for small to mid-sized businesses with relatively predictable risk. Insurers look at a few things to decide if you qualify:

• Business size (revenue and number of employees)
• Physical location and its size
• Industry and risk profile
• Whether your operations fit standard ""low-to-medium hazard"" categories

Retail shops, offices, contractors, and many service businesses are often a great fit. Higher-risk or very large operations may need standalone policies instead.

The only way to know for sure is to check. DM us 'BOP' and we'll tell you if you qualify.

People use these terms interchangeably, but there's a real distinction — and it can affect how a claim is covered.

Excess liability adds more of the SAME coverage on top of one underlying policy. If your general liability caps out, excess extends that same limit.

Umbrella liability is broader. It sits over MULTIPLE policies (general liability, auto, and more) and can even cover some claims your underlying policies exclude.

Which one fits depends on your business, your risks, and the policies you already carry. That's a conversation worth having before you need it.

"We treat our people well, so this won't happen to us." We hear it a lot. The problem: being a good employer doesn't stop a claim from being filed — and defending one is expensive whether or not you're at fault.

Between attorney fees, settlements, and the time pulled away from running your business, employment claims regularly run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

EPLI covers defense costs, settlements, and judgments for claims like discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination.

A Business Owner's Policy is one of the best values in small business insurance — but it isn't everything. Knowing the gaps is how you avoid a nasty surprise at claim time.

A standard BOP does NOT include:
• Workers' compensation (required in most states)
• Commercial auto (your vehicles)
• Professional liability / E&O (advice and services)
• Employment practices liability (employee lawsuits)

The fix is simple: pair your BOP with the coverages your specific business needs. That's exactly what we help you map out.

Not sure what your BOP is missing? Let's review it together.

Every liability policy has a limit. When a claim runs past that limit, the rest comes out of your business — and potentially your personal assets.

Commercial umbrella insurance sits on top of your existing policies (general liability, auto, and more) and extends your protection by an extra $1M, $2M, or more.

The best part? It's one of the most affordable coverages you can buy relative to how much protection it adds.

One large claim shouldn't be able to end everything you've built. DM us 'UMBRELLA' to see what an extra layer would cost you.

Wrongful termination. Discrimination. Harassment. Retaliation. These claims can come from a current employee, a former one, or even a job applicant — and defending one can cost tens of thousands, even when you did nothing wrong.

Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) covers the legal defense and settlement costs when an employee brings an employment-related claim against your business.

Here's the part that surprises people: your general liability policy does NOT cover this.

If you have even one employee, you have this exposure. Let's talk about closing the gap.

Most small business owners buy property coverage and liability coverage as two separate policies. A Business Owner's Policy (BOP) bundles them into one — and it's often cheaper than buying each on its own.

A BOP typically combines:
• Commercial property (your building, equipment, inventory)
• General liability (customer injuries, property damage)
• Business interruption (lost income after a covered event)

One policy. One renewal date. Usually one lower price.

Wondering if a BOP is right for your business? DM us 'BOP' and we'll walk you through it.

Most professional liability policies are "claims-made," which means they only cover claims filed while the policy is active, and for work done after a specific date.

If you switch carriers or let coverage lapse, work you did in the past may no longer be protected. Two terms to know:

- PRIOR ACTS (retroactive) coverage protects work done before your current policy started
- TAIL coverage extends your protection after a policy ends, for past work

Before you change anything about your E&O policy, ask how these apply; a gap here can undo years of coverage.

Thinking about a change? Talk to us first.
