📜✨ Celebrating the First Poet of America: National Anne Bradstreet Day
Today, we honor Anne Bradstreet—the first published poet in the American colonies, a mother of eight, and a woman who turned her faith, resilience, and love for family into timeless verse. Born in 1612, Bradstreet’s words gave voice to the struggles and joys of early colonial life, blending Puritan devotion with raw human emotion. Her poetry wasn’t just art—it was survival, comfort, and legacy.
In an era where women’s voices were often silenced, Bradstreet wrote of loss, love, and the fleeting nature of life. She understood that preparation and providence were not just virtues—they were necessities. Her poems, like "Upon the Burning of Our House", remind us that while earthly things may perish, what we build for those we love endures.
💌 A Poem for the Modern Age: "Upon the Provident Care of Life’s Estate"
Inspired by Bradstreet’s themes of care, foresight, and love, we wrote a poem in her style—but for today’s world. It’s called "Upon the Provident Care of Life’s Estate", and it speaks to something Bradstreet herself would have understood: the importance of protecting those we love, even when we’re no longer here to do so.

O fleeting breath, O transient, fragile hour,
How swift thy flight, how frail thy mortal power!
The sun may rise and set in golden light,
Yet none can say what shadows haunt the night.
My dearest love, my children sweet and fair,
What care I take to guard thee from despair?
Not gold nor land nor house of stone so strong
Can shield thy days if fate should deal thee wrong.
Yet mark thee well, though death may claim my hand,
There stands a shield no grave can e’er disband.
A covenant writ in ink of trust and grace,
To hold thy future in a steadfast place.
No storm nor fire, nor time’s relentless tide,
Shall leave thee bare when I am called to ride.
For though my voice be stilled, my love shall stay,
And coins I’ve saved shall speak what words may say.
O prudent heart, why wait till storms arise?
Why trust to chance what wisdom may devise?
The careful ant, though small, doth store her grain,
And winter finds her free from want and pain.
So too, my love, let us with foresight plan,
And bind our days with more than hope began.
That when the Lord shall call my soul to rest,
Thou’rt not bereft, but guarded, safe, and blest.
For life is dear, yet fleeting as the wind,
And death, though grim, may leave thy peace unpin’d.
But he who plans with love and thoughtful care
Shall leave no grief for those he holds so dear.
Then take this scroll, this bond of love and gold,
And let thy heart be light, thy future bold.
For though I sleep beneath the cold, cold stone,
Thy days are kept—thou’rt never left alone.
Why this poem?

It’s not about fear; it’s about love and responsibility. Just as Bradstreet wrote poems to comfort her children, life insurance is a way to ensure their future is secure, no matter what happens.
