🚨 In case you missed it!

This morning, Mississippi Business Alliance and Accelerate MS did an outstanding job on SuperTalk Mississippi highlighting the incredible work happening across our state in workforce development, economic development, education, and the partnerships helping move Mississippi forward.

We highly encourage you to take a few minutes and check it out. It is incredibly informative and gives a great look at the intentional efforts taking place at both the state and local levels to strengthen our workforce, support business and industry, and create more opportunities for our communities.

From economic development initiatives to partnerships with our schools, including K-12 education, this conversation shows just how much work is being done to prepare students, support employers, and build stronger communities across Mississippi.

Knowledge is absolutely power, and the more we understand about what’s happening behind the scenes to grow our workforce and economy, the better equipped we are to support and take part in that progress.

We are proud to partner with organizations like these that are not only talking about progress, but actively helping make it happen. The work being done is exciting, impactful, and truly something Mississippi can be proud of.

This week, part of the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber team traveled to Biloxi for the Mississippi Economic Development Council (MEDC) Exchange Conference, joining economic and community development professionals from across the state to learn, connect, and bring fresh ideas back home.

There was a lot of valuable knowledge gained, from chamber operations and workforce development to social media strategy, site selection, and economic development trends.

We were especially proud to cheer on our Executive Director, Hannah Aguzzi, who also serves on the MEDC Board of Directors, as she represented North Mississippi in the conference’s Family Feud competition! She helped her team secure the winning answer in the Economic Development category… but we’re not sharing what it was. 😂

And Judd Wilson, Senior Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce for the Community Development Foundation in Tupelo, MS, gave Steve Harvey a run for his money, hands down, the BEST Family Feud host! 👏

We’re excited to bring what we learned back to Cleveland and Bolivar County and put it to work for our members and community!

As Memorial Day approaches, we invite our community to pause and remember the true meaning of the holiday: honoring the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day, we encourage businesses, residents, and organizations across Bolivar County to join us in creating simple displays of remembrance, whether that’s a flag, yellow ribbon, candle, photo, or tribute placed somewhere visible in honor of those who sacrificed so much.

As a Chamber, our role is to strengthen community, not only through economic development and tourism, but by fostering the hometown culture where people care for and honor one another. This initiative was inspired by one of our own as we remember Sgt. Maj. Jeremy C. Sims, who passed away on May 20, 2024. A native of our community, Jeremy’s memory is one we continue to honor alongside all of the military families across Bolivar County who carry the weight of sacrifice and service.

We would also like to thank the Bolivar Bullet for helping share this story and promote this community-wide tribute of remembrance.

If you create a tribute, we would love for you to share it by tagging the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce or sending us a photo directly.

May we always remember. ❤️💛🇺🇸

Session 3 of L.E.A.D. Bolivar focused on Community & Economic Development, Workforce Connection, and the leadership it takes to move communities forward.

A huge thank you to our incredible speakers who helped lead meaningful conversations throughout the morning:
• Mitzi Woods, Workforce Director, South Delta Planning and Development District
• Stevie Phillips, Senior Economic Development Representative, Cooperative Energy
• Gabby McNabb, Business Expansion and Retention, Entergy Mississippi

Each speaker brought a different perspective on how partnerships, infrastructure, workforce development, utilities, site readiness, and long-term planning all play a role in creating opportunities across Bolivar County and the Delta. Discussions throughout the morning centered not only on economic development, but also on leadership, collaboration, and the importance of investing in communities for long-term growth.

The afternoon gave the class an opportunity to see leadership in action through visits with local industry and workforce leaders. At Quality Steel Corporation, Lynn Hardin shared the company’s history, workplace culture, and the leadership principles that have contributed to its long-term success as a multi-generational family-owned business.

L.E.A.D. Bolivar class member Jared Moseley, Plant Manager at Quality Steel, also gave the class a firsthand look at the company’s operations through a tour of the facility and production line, allowing participants to see the scale of operations, workforce coordination, and day-to-day leadership required to keep the company running successfully.

The class then traveled to Robinson Electric Company, Inc., where Brian Robinson discussed workforce challenges, employee retention, and the development of their nationally accredited apprenticeship program (created with support from state and regional partners, including South Delta Planning and Development District) to help bridge workforce gaps right here in our region. He also spoke about leadership within their company and the importance of investing in people, with Robinson Electric, much like Quality Steel, being a multi-generational family-owned business built on strong leadership and long-term community investment.

The day concluded with a tour of the new spec building at the Charles Dean Industrial Park, giving the class a firsthand look at the product of local leadership, state partnerships, energy providers, and economic development collaboration working together to position Bolivar County for future growth.

One of the biggest takeaways from the day: leadership and economic development go hand in hand, and strong communities are built through collaboration.

Thank you again to all of our speakers, hosts, and partners for investing in the future leaders of Bolivar County!
