Every June 14th, we take a moment to honor the Stars and Stripes and the history behind one of our nation’s most recognizable symbols. At The Brooks Stafford Company, we’re proud to celebrate Flag Day alongside our community and reflect on how shared traditions help safeguard the future we’re all working toward.
Here are a few flag facts that might surprise you:
• The current 50‑star flag was designed by a 17‑year‑old student, Robert G. Heft of Lancaster, Ohio. His class project became the official design in 1960.
• There have been 27 official versions of the U.S. flag, most updated to reflect new states joining the Union. Each change tells a story of the country’s growth.
• Red, white, and blue carry symbolic meaning: red for hardiness and valor, white for purity and innocence, and blue for vigilance, perseverance, and justice.
• Six American flags have been placed on the moon, beginning with the Apollo 11 mission.
• Today’s design is the longest-running version in history, unchanged since Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959.
We’re wishing everyone a meaningful Flag Day and a chance to appreciate the history, resilience, and unity the flag represents. 🇺🇸
