A client recently sent me a portfolio email, thorough, formal, and missing the person I knew on the other end. Turns out, they'd fed their numbers into an AI tool and forwarded the result.

I'm not against AI. I use it myself, and I tell clients to as well, it's a great way to clarify thinking before a real conversation. But there's a difference between a tool that helps you think and one that thinks for you.

AI can model a mortgage payoff or project a retirement account 30 years out. What it can't do is know why the math isn't always the point, or when the optimal answer isn't the right one for the person living with it.

In my new piece for Kiplinger, I write about where AI genuinely helps in financial planning, and where a human adviser still plays an important role.

AI can clarify information, but for key financial decisions, here's why it shouldn't replace an adviser who knows your family, your history and your values.

If you have a well-designed financial plan, market volatility doesn’t necessarily require a dramatic response. In many cases, the most productive course of action is to remain focused on your long-term goals rather than react to short-term market movements.

Here are several principles that can help you navigate periods of market volatility with greater confidence and perspective.

I've always believed the best financial advice comes from listening first. That's what I try to do with every client, and it's what I try to do with every article I write for Kiplinger.

Kiplinger just named me an Adviser Intel contributor, a designation reserved for a small group of fiduciary financial professionals chosen by their editors. It means something to me because the questions I write about are shaped by real experiences. They are inspired by conversations with clients: the guilt around spending money they've spent decades saving, the anxiety that comes with sudden complexity, the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it.

Kiplinger gives me the chance to reach people who are asking those same questions every day. My hope with every piece is that they feel a little less alone in the decision and a little more confident about the path forward.
