Business Email Compromise (BEC) is one of the most costly and sophisticated fraud threats businesses face today.

In a typical BEC scheme, fraudsters pose as executives, vendors, or trusted partners to trick employees into sending money or sharing sensitive information. These attacks are deliberate and well-researched; often starting with publicly available information and ending with fraudulent payment instructions.

Here’s how it usually happens: Fraudsters study your organization, send a targeted phishing email, gain access to an account, and then impersonate a trusted contact to redirect payments.

Protect Your Business:
• Verify requests for payments or account changes by calling a known number
• Check email addresses carefully—look for subtle misspellings
• Enable multi-factor authentication on email accounts
• Train your team to spot phishing and suspicious emails
• When in doubt, call the sender via a trusted phone number
