We are seeing this same trend! Please check your accounts. If you have mailed a check to Discover recently, please make sure that it has reached Discover. If you have questions, please contact your branch! The quicker that fraud is realized, the easier to get the money back.

⚠️ FRAUD ALERT ⚠️

Community First Bank of the Heartland is warning customers about a growing mail fraud scheme involving mailed Discover credit card payments.

Several individuals have reported mailing checks to pay their Discover bills, only to later find that the checks were intercepted, altered, and fraudulently processed. In some cases, Discover reportedly never received the original payment.

While this issue has specifically impacted some Discover customers, the reminder applies to everyone: mail theft and check fraud continue to increase nationwide.

To help protect yourself:
βœ”οΈ Use online or mobile payment options whenever possible
βœ”οΈ Avoid mailing checks unless absolutely necessary
βœ”οΈ Consider certified mail with tracking if you must send a payment
βœ”οΈ Monitor your accounts regularly through online banking
βœ”οΈ Set up account alerts and text notifications to quickly spot suspicious activity

β€œUnfortunately, criminals continue to find new ways to take advantage of consumers, and mail theft and check fraud are growing at epidemic levels,” said Gary Bryant, CEO of Community First Bank of the Heartland. β€œWe encourage everyone to use secure electronic payment options whenever possible and to closely monitor their accounts so suspicious activity can be identified quickly. These kinds of incidents can not only result in financial losses but damage your credit scores and certainly disrupt your life as you are forced to deal with the aftermath of these things. Detecting fraud as it happens is crucial to stopping these criminal activities.”

If you notice suspicious transactions or believe you may be a victim of fraud, contact your financial institution immediately.
