Doug Fisher's State Farm office would like to thank Clarksville Sports Cards for being our April Spotlight and are excited to introduce this months' business
Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, we are proud to introduce La Loma as May's neighborhood spotlight business.
Upon entering the front door, I immediately noticed the smell of freshly baked bread that had just been taken out of the oven. I was greeted by owner and operator Juan Alcala. As we walked up and down the aisles of his store he told me how he turned his American Dream into reality.
"I wanted to make something for everyone, Juan said, Clarksville has so many Latinos but not all are from Mexico like me." Juan whom hails from Guanajuato, Mexico named La Loma after the village he grew up in. "Even though I'm from Mexico, many people who shop at my store are not. I wanted to make sure they have things too, we have arepas from Colombia, pupusas from El Salvador, cheeses from Honduras, everyone has something. I even have the Cokes the Americans like with the glass bottle." To call La Loma a 'Mexican grocery store " doesn't do justice to the hard work Juan has done to include every walk of life into this one building. It's a community staple. It's where a mother means when she says "Get me eggs from the store", it's where fathers get meat for cookouts, their candy fills every piñata at a kid's birthday for miles on end. Ice cream that makes a perfect date night
I asked Juan if he feels like it's more than just a food store, "Of course, he said pointing at a stack of laundry detergent, " We have detergent, supplies for cleaning, we try to keep everything so people have just 1 stop. We want it all here."
La Loma is hoping by winter to have a second store put up behind the first, "By Christmas we hope, Juan said, there's still some things left to finish, but we are hoping by winter our new store will be open."
