Thoughts of the Week

Something I did
This one came from last week, and it’s more of an experience. My wife and I were walking down a historic street while we were on vacation and saw an old Episcopal Church built in 1901. It’s the same one we had walked by on our way into downtown every day, but this time we saw people standing outside. They saw us admiring the building and asked “would you all like to see inside?” Which of course, being lovers of old buildings we did. It was full of ornate stained glass, original woodwork, just a beautiful place.
We then saw a sign “If the organist is playing, please come in, you won’t bother him.”
I love that the Church was so welcoming. Even though we are believers they never asked, or assumed, or judged. When we left they said “If you are here on a Sunday we would love to have your for a service, we don’t care what you believe we would just love to have you”
“We would love to have you here” That was so simple but so powerful.

Something I saw
Pulling into my driveway at home I noticed how full the canopy of trees had gotten. Then I saw that the grass was already tall again, and all the bushes and flowers were lush green and full.
It’s funny how most growth feels invisible while it’s happening… until suddenly it’s obvious.
I think a lot of our own progress works the same way.
You don’t always see it day-to-day, but over time it shows up.

Something I read
“Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness” –Brene Brown—
Too many people, especially men, feel like being vulnerable is the same as being weak. In reality it’s just part of sharing your true self. Your desires, fears, just sharing “you”.
When you share the real “you”, you allow yourself to be seen, and that can be scary, but it’s also great, give it a try.
