⚠️ AIR QUALITY ALERT JULY 16TH ⚠️
Smoke from wildfires has significantly impacted air quality across southeast Michigan. If you can smell or see smoke, outdoor air may be unhealthy to breathe for extended periods.
To help protect yourself and your family:
🏠 Stay indoors whenever possible
• Keep windows and doors closed.
• Run your air conditioning or HVAC system on recirculate with a clean filter if available.
• Consider using a HEPA air purifier if you have one.
🚶 Limit time outside
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activities, exercise, and yard work.
• If you must be outdoors for an extended period, a properly fitted N95 or KN95 mask offers the best protection from fine smoke particles.
❤️ Take extra precautions for those most at risk
Children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and anyone with asthma, COPD, or heart disease should avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure and keep prescribed medications readily available.
📱 Monitor conditions
Air quality can change throughout the day. Check the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) at www.AirNow.gov before spending extended time outdoors.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office encourages everyone to stay informed, take precautions, and check in on family members, neighbors, and others who may be especially vulnerable during this period of poor air quality.
