Claremont Humans vs Zombies

Claremont Humans vs Zombies We are the organization responsible for conducting games of Humans vs Zombies on the 5C's. It is held once a semester, and involves as many as 500 people.

This is a weeklong simulated zombie apocalypse, played 24 hours a day. It's awesome. Starting in the spring semester of 2010, Claremont Humans vs Zombies has only grown in scale and participation, reaching as many as 600+ players across the 5C's (and sometimes even 7C's). Each semester, Claremont HvZ organizes a 5 day game of moderated tag that involves both “human” and “zombie” players. Zombies a

ttempt to tag humans to amass an ever-growing horde. Humans defend themselves against zombies by tagging zombies either with foam dart blasters or a thrown balled-up sock, and attempt to survive long enough to figure out the zombie's weakness. Show your best teamwork, leadership, and strategical know-how on whichever side you find yourself, and you might even end up with a newfound appreciation for brains. The semester hasn't started yet, but the zombie apocalypse has! Come by the Pitzer Mounds at 4:30 on MLK day for an HvZ minigame. It will be an hour of short games in which zombie players try to tag humans, and human players try to stun zombies and survive! You can bring your own blasters and socks, but we'll also have plenty available. You'll get a chance to play both sides and try out some cool upgrades. Try not to die! Or at least have fun doing it.

Hello all!

The mod team is considering introducing a new role in HvZ, Assistant Mod. Assistant mods would help out with tasks like postering and tabling before the game week starts. During the week, they might help staff the base camp, place items for day missions, or perform some of the less complex tasks during night missions. When on duty, assistant mods would not be able to actively play, but when not on duty they would be able to play any part of the game.

Because this is a new role, we’re happy to work with individuals to determine what responsibilities fit best for each person - ex if you would like to help place things during the day, but want to play all of the night missions, that’s definitely an option.

Additionally, assistant mods would be able to select their own feed codes for any game they help with. If you are interested in this role, please send an email to us by July 15th that includes your school, class year, and a brief paragraph explaining what parts of running HvZ interest you. The mod email address is [email protected].

Hi all,
The HvZ moderating team has put together a survey that seeks to better understand people's opinions on the use of Nerf blasters on campus, as well as the best way to facilitate conversation about it. If you've got 5 minutes of your life to spare, please consider filling out this survey. Thanks!

To all,
Over the past 7 years, HvZ has grown from a small garbage fire to one of the largest sub-free events on the 5Cs. In that time, we’ve seen players abandon all sorts of missions and learn a lot about what goes into making good fanfiction.
And so to ensure that we continue to balance the game so it's more fun, we will be switching to an annual format and thus will not be holding the game this semester. We understand that this may be disappointing for the seven spring players, but we believe that this will allow us to focus on making the fall game week even more balanced in the future!
However, we are still currently working on an encampment sort of game for this spring. As always, we will keep you updated with details as we finalize them the night before.
We appreciate your support and look forward to banning you from our future games!
–The Claremont HvZ Mods

P.S. If you're looking for more fun spring-semester events to replace the gaping hole in your life left by the absence of our game, check out the 5C Hackathon.

Players, a reminder that there is a global cease fire until tonight's mission! Enjoy your Saturday, rest, spend some time outside, and prepare for this game's FINAL MISSION. Briefing will be at 6:15 at Shanahan steps. Tonight's mission is amazingly intense and extremely highly recommended to attend. Humans come locked n' loaded and zombies bathed in the blood of your prey. Get ready.
