Medicare Scam Warning! I have clients call me on a regular basis asking if the call they received from “Medicare” is legitimate. See article in the comments (spoiler alert; Medicare will never call you).

Scammers prey on Medicare beneficiaries all year, but especially during the fall Annual Enrollment Period (Oct 15 - Dec 7). If you see a commercial that promises benefits that seem too good to be true, beware.

I had a client call about one of those commercials last fall. He proceeded to receive over 30 phone calls per day from various call centers, and had two people knock on his door (which is a Medicare violation). In the end, the advertised benefits “were not available in his zip code” (bait and switch).

If you are curious if an offer is legitimate call your licensed health insurance agent first.

With Medicare, do you have coverage out of the country? Not necessarily. All of my clients have some sort of coverage, but how much depends on the plan. I advise when planning a trip outside the U.S. to consider additional coverage.
