🚨Just out here trying to spread the word🚨 The Fed cut rates this week by .25%, here’s a quick what that means and what it doesn’t.

What it means - the Fed funds is the rate at which banks are able to lend/borrow money overnight. The Fed funds rate will have a direct impact to shorter term lending (think personal loans, credit cards, auto loans etc).

What it doesn’t mean - mortgage rates DID NOT drop .25% this week. In fact they increased from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday almost .25% (looking at national averages). Mortgages are long term financial instruments and react more to news of what is expected over the next 6-12 months than they do to any Fed action today. Mortgage rates had fallen between .625-.75% over the past 60 days with the expectation of a Fed rate cut (that had been baked in weeks ago) and now that it happened we’re back to focused on employment report and inflation to see where the economy, and rates, are headed next.
