Seniors “Aging Like a Pro” Senior Benefits Recap from August meetings!
Medicare Savings Programs can cover the standard $202.90 Part B premium for people who qualify. (2027 Premium expected to increase)
Extra Help can reduce Part D premiums and prescription costs, while programs such as LIHEAP and weatherization assistance can help with household expenses.
Veterans and surviving spouses may also have benefits worth checking, including VA Aid & Attendance for those who meet the program’s requirements.
Several of these are state-specific, so property-tax relief, drug assistance, energy help, and eligibility can look very different depending on where you live.
Free tax preparation is another one worth checking. VITA and AARP Tax-Aide serve different groups, and the help is not limited to retirees. (WCCOA hosts them every year, and this year Goodwill in Chipley will too)
If you want one place to start, BenefitsCheckUp from the National Council on Aging screens for federal, state, and local programs.
The important limitation is that qualifying for one program does not mean you qualify for the others. Each has its own eligibility rules.
