FELONY BURGLARY AND VANDALISM ARREST

Just after midnight on October 11, 2025, Chico Police Officers responded to the area of Mangrove Ave and E. 1st Ave. following reports of a suspect actively attempting to break into several businesses. The suspect fled the area and avoided apprehension, but was later identified as Shane Vogel.

At 9:30am (10/11), Officers responded to a home on Spruce Ave. after the residents heard screaming and banging coming from the basement, then discovered someone had broken in.

CPD Officers located Shane Vogel in the basement of the residence. During the incident, Vogel damaged a gas line in the basement which necessitated the evacuation of surrounding residences. The gas line was rendered safe by the Chico Fire Department and all occupants were able to return to their homes.

46-year-old Shane Michael Vogel was booked into the Butte County Jail for multiple counts of felony burglary and vandalsim.

Well… This wasn’t quite the welcome to our new office neighborhood we’d hoped for! Flowers or cookies would’ve sufficed 😉 A 1:30am phone call today from our friends at Chico PD alerted us to this issue. Big thank you to the Officers for waiting for us to arrive and for calling out the fantastic team at .cleaning.services to clean and board up this mess! Unfortunately the individual responsible hit a couple of other local businesses at random, and did other damage in our complex. We are very fortunate to have good insurance 😁 but this is a big set back for us with reopening in our new location. We appreciate your patience meantime this gets resolved and our move in resumes!

Our Agency has a software conversion taking place today and tomorrow, giving us no access to our systems. So we’ve given our Team a 4 day weekend, and will be back in office on Monday! Thank you for understanding, as there’s never a “good time” for these projects 🙃🙂
